Industrial Gas Users Association – South Africa
Advocating for a Competitive, Gas-Powered Future
Who We Are and Why It Matters
IGUA-SA is a formal non-profit association representing large-scale industrial users of gas in Southern Africa.
South Africa is facing a looming gas supply crisis that threatens to derail industrial output, investment, and jobs. With major supply contracts ending, infrastructure gaps widening, and no clear state led solution in sight, the country’s energy future hangs in the balance. In this fragile environment, IGUA-SA plays a vital role. As the collective voice of large-scale gas users, we bring industry together to advocate for practical, long-term solutions that protect operations, ensure energy resilience, and support economic growth.
South African industrial gas users directly employ ±70,000 people and contribute between R300 billion and R500 billion annually to the South African economy. A cessation in the gas supply will result in multiple plant closures and a significant reduction in manufacturing output across KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga.
Who We Represent
IGUA-SA supports large-scale industries that depend on reliable gas supply to power operations. Our members include organisations that currently rely on gas in their production processes, those planning to expand their operations with increased gas demand, and those looking to transition from more costly or environmentally harmful energy sources. By uniting these users under a shared mandate, we help strengthen their collective voice and influence in shaping a more secure and sustainable gas economy.
